5 places I can't stop thinking about
Published about 9 hours ago • 2 min read
A couple of weeks ago, I shared Part 1 of my travel bucket list—the countries I haven’t been to yet that I’m dying to visit. (Read it hereif you missed it.)
Well, I wasn’t done. Here’s Part 2.
Argentina
Llao Llao Hotel in Bariloche
I visited Buenos Aires for a couple days when I was in high school, but haven’t seen any of the rest of the country, so it’s on the list. And what a country: Buenos Aires has the tango and café culture, famous futbol teams, interesting neighborhoods like Palermo, and excursions into gaucho country and the Paraná Delta. Outside the capital region, you’ve got the Andes, Patagonian glaciers, Iguazú Falls, the Lake District, and wine country in Mendoza. The food is amazing, the hotels are fantastic, and as a Spanish speaker, I know I’d feel right at home.
Botswana
Mombo Camp
If a client asks me where to go for the most upscale safari, I send them to Botswana. What’s interesting about it compared to other safari destinations is the variety: you’ve got the savannah, the Okavango Delta, where you can do safaris by dugout canoe, and the Kalahari for desert landscapes and wildlife. The lodges are incredible, and super strict conservation laws make the game viewing exceptional. I was actually supposed to go a few years ago, and it fell through—I'm still bummed about it, but I’ll get there someday.
Namibia
Game viewing near Sossusvlei
Most places you go in Africa for safari, it’s kind of all about the safari. But Namibia has a cultural dimension too. I remember seeing a photo in a magazine many years ago of some Himba women, who wear beautiful bead jewelry and use clay to style their hair in ropes. I was so fascinated, and I’d love to see some of those indigenous cultures. There’s also the eerie Skeleton Coast, with its shipwrecks and whale bones, plus, of course, the salt pans and red dunes in the desert, and bush country for game viewing.
New Zealand
Rosewood Cape Kidnappers
I’ve sent several clients to New Zealand and it looks so wonderful. For a geographically small country, it offers so much: rainforest, glaciers, lakes, wine country, dramatic coastlines, volcanic and geothermal areas, and Māori culture woven throughout. A little bit of everything. And the luxury lodges look INCREDIBLE—if they’re anything like the ones in Australia, they’ll probably be some of my favorites anywhere.
Scandinavia & Iceland
Magical, mystical Iceland
The other big hole—it’s the one part of Europe I haven’t been to, apart from stopovers at Keflavík, where I loaded up on crunchy fish balls (not my fav) and chocolate-covered licorice to bring home. I’m dying to visit Iceland for the nature, Stockholm and Copenhagen for culture, and of course, see the northern lights and the fjords.
So there you have it—the top spots on my bucket list, at least for now. (There's always more, and it has a way of growing.)
Writing this two-part list has made me impatient to book more of these trips (this happens every time I plan a trip for clients—just ask Iñigo). If it’s doing the same thing to you, Reader, grab a Destination Discovery Call. It’s the fastest way to turn “someday” into an actual plan.
LIFE'S TOO SHORT FOR MEDIOCRE TRIPS. THIS IS EFFORTLESS, UNFORGETTABLE TRAVEL THAT TRANSFORMS YOU.
